Evaluation of an intervention for unaccompanied asylum seeking children

Led by: Eleni Hatzidimitriadou, Helen Carr and Precious Sango

Presentation and questions from 11.00 to 12.00.
Time for lunch and networking from 12.00 to 13.00.

Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) have recently been supported in Kent in increasing numbers. These children have usually experienced harrowing journeys to the UK seeking safety and refuge, and through working with the young people, sleep was identified as a key issue. An early intervention approach, the ‘Sleep Project’, was introduced to address the mental health needs of UASC groups in Kent. In our seminar, we will present findings of the evaluation study of the ‘Sleep Project’, mainly focusing on the experiences and views of health and social care professionals involved in the project, and highlighting the strengths of this intervention and lessons learnt for service providers.
