UK universities tie up open-access deal with Springer Nature  – British academics will be able to publish freely in open-access and hybrid journals run by Springer Nature after a deal was finalised between the publisher and the UK higher education IT agency Jisc.

Low success rate for Wellcome’s public engagement scheme – Only 4 per cent of proposals were funded under the latest round of the Wellcome Trust’s Public Engagement Fund, with the charity saying that many unsuccessful bids were not in line with its strategy or lacked convincingly meaningful outcomes.

Research charities declare open-access spend – A group of major research charities spent almost £7.5 million to support open-access publishing between October 2017 and September 2018, a study has shown.
