Launch of new interactive costing tool for industry

The NIHR has launched a new web-based costing tool for industry – which will enable faster and more efficient costing and contracting between the life sciences sector and the NHS during the study set-up phase. The new interactive Costing Tool (iCT) is now available as a module within CPMS – NIHR’s research activity data management system. It includes a number of major improvements over the previous Excel-based version of the costing template. Read more.

New NIHR Patient Engagement in Clinical Development initiative

A new NIHR initiative is bringing patients and life science companies together earlier in the clinical development process. The aim of the service is to facilitate patient involvement before a study’s protocols are finalised to help make commercial clinical research more patient-friendly, and achieve better recruitment and retention in the long term. Research Activity Integration programme – phase 1 go live

Phase 1 of the NIHR Clinical Research Network’s LPMS/CPMS Research Activity Integration programme went live on 1 May 2019. Sending of research activity data that occurred in the 2019/2020 financial year is now automated between the NIHR’s local and national data management systems – benefiting research delivery by delivering near real-time UK wide visibility of research activity data. Research Development (RD) is part of the Department of Enterprise, Employability and Research Development. RD is responsible for ensuring that Research and Enterprise is of the highest quality and meets all required internal and external standards, including managing the institutional submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). RD leads on development and implementation of the institutional research and enterprise integrity policies, processes and best practice. It also hosts the institutional Staff Researcher Development Programme and the Early Career Researcher Programme SPARC, and is responsible for the annual Research Internship programme. RD provides strategic and targeted support for academic staff to seek and secure funding for their research and innovation activities. This includes identification of core funding opportunities and support for proposal development, alongside strategic advice and support for faculties to develop their research portfolio and capacity.
