SPHEIR call for proposals now open

The next SPHEIR call for partnership proposals is now open.   This new competitive grant fund is seeking applications from partnerships — groups of organisations from across the higher education, private, government and civil society sectors — working to transform higher education in low-income countries. The call is open until 20 February 2017.

Grants of between £1 million and £5 million are available for partnerships lasting from two to four years.  Find out more at www.spheir.org.uk/apply/call-for-proposalswp

Tackling the UK’s International Challenges 

The British Academy is inviting proposals from UK-based researchers in the Social Sciences and Humanities to develop projects related to the following topics:

  • Urban Futures;
  • Conflict, Stability & Security;
  • Justice, Rights & Equality;
  • Europe’s Futures;
  • Knowledge Frontiers.

This call is part of a new round of research projects under the British Academy’s ‘Tackling the UK’s International Challenges’ programme. Awards are of one-year in duration. Alcohol Research UK – Call for Proposals for Research Innovation Grants

The Research Innovation funding stream is now open for applications to tackle this year’s priority: ‘Treatment and recovery now’.

In particular, proposals are welcomed that address one or more of the following areas:

  • Mental health issues and dual diagnosis
  • Needs assessment and response to demand
  • Pathways through, and barriers to, treatment and recovery
  • Health or social inequalities and access to / experiences of treatment and recovery support
  • Experiences of minority groups or hard-to-reach communities
  • Understanding the ‘active ingredients’ in treatment and recovery
  • The impact of economic pressures / sector restructuring on service provision

Deadline for receipt of applications: 1st November 2016.

New £40m Fund for Youth Social Action in England to Launch in November

Prime Minister Theresa May and the Big Lottery Fund announced yesterday that they are each committing £20 million to act as seed investment and form the central part of this new independent fund that is aiming to attract other investors.

The #iwill fund is a new national independent fund supporting the charity Step Up to Serve’s #iwill campaign of increasing by 50% the number of young people (10 to 20 year olds) participating in meaningful youth social action by 2020. Major project grants Alzheimer’s Research UK

Alzheimer’s Research UK invites applications for its major project grants. These fund research projects on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.  The lead applicant and point of contact must be based in a UK academic or research institution, but the application may include researchers or institutions outside the UK. The lead applicant or co-applicant must hold a tenure or tenure-track appointment.

Grants are worth up to £1 million each for a maximum period of five years, to cover salaries, equipment, and animal and running costs.
